Janssen launches new blood cancer awareness campaign in UK
Janssen has announced the launch of a new campaign that aims to raise awareness of blood cancer across the UK throughout September.
The Make Blood Cancer Visible campaign will see Janssen join forces with nine blood cancer patient support groups to conduct a range of activities throughout the month, which has been designated as Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
As part of this, Janssen has commissioned designer Paul Cocksedge to create an installation that displays 104 giant 3D names in Paternoster Square, London, representing the number of individuals diagnosed with blood cancer every day.
Each sculpture is the name of a real person diagnosed with blood cancer and is sized to perfectly match their height, with the installation giving an opportunity for the public to learn more about their personal stories.
Dr Rozlyn Bekker, business unit director for oncology and haematology at Janssen, said: "We hope that this campaign will help to give a voice to patients living with blood cancer."
A survey carried out as part of the campaign revealed that only one in ten people are aware that there are more than 100 different types of blood cancer, while only 12 percent of people knew blood cancer was one of the five most commonly diagnosed cancer types.
