Johnson and Johnson agrees acquisition of Pulsar Vascular
Johnson and Johnson has announced that its Codman Neuro business is acquiring the California-based medical technology company Pulsar Vascular.
DePuy Synthes Products, an affiliate of Codman Neuro, will act as the acquiring entity, which will help Codman Neuro to build upon its existing strong position in the neurovascular and neurosurgery market.
Pulsar Vascular is a leading developer of breakthrough platform technology for the neurovascular treatment of complex aneurysms, including the PulseRider system, a minimally-invasive, self-expanding nitinol implant.
This device is used to bridge the neck of cerebral aneurysms during treatment of unruptured wide-neck intracranial aneurysms originating on or near a bifurcation, with its unique saddle shaped-stent leaving minimal metal in the parent artery.
The PulseRider received CE Mark certification in Europe in late 2013, with Codman Neuro acting as exclusive distributor of Pulsar Vascular technology in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Shlomi Nachman, chairman of cardiovascular and specialty solutions at Johnson and Johnson's medical devices division, said: "Working together, we will leverage our proven market expertise and strong commercial footprint to bring this technology to many more clinicians worldwide."
