Johnson and Johnson announces availability of new cardiac catheter in EU

17th June 2008

Johnson & Johnson has announced the availability of a new unique bi-directional irrigated tip cardiac catheter for the treatment of irregular heart rhythms is now available in the EU.

Manufactured by Johnson & Johnson company Biosense Webster, the EZ Steer ThermoCool bi-directional catheter was approved in March 2008 by the British Standards Institution.

The catheter incorporates ThermoCool irrigated tip technology to maintain safe tip-to-tissue temperatures in order to reduce the risk of char and coagulum from high-temperature ablation.

It also includes a special ergonomically-designed handle to aid comfort and give doctors a feeling of direct connection with the target ablation area and catheter tip.

Shlomi Nachman, president of Biosense Webster, said: “As leaders in electrophysiology, we take pride in transforming insightful ideas from the electrophysiology lab into enhanced technologies that improve procedures and make a difference for patients.”

He added that the example of the EZ Steer ThermoCool Bi-Directional Catheter is an example of how the company takes every product created and regulatory approval received to inspire it to move to the next level in healthcare.

At the Heart Rhythm 2008 conference held by Biosense Webster held in last May, Biosense Webster presented the ThermoCool catheter alongside its Lasso circular variable mapping catheter and Carto XP system.
