Johnson and Johnson announces finalists of Next-Gen Baby Box QuickFire Challenge

5th December 2017

Johnson and Johnson has announced the finalists of its Next-Gen Baby Box QuickFire Challenge, which was launched earlier this year.

A collaboration between the company's pharmaceuticals division Janssen and several partners in Finland, the aim of the programme was to create a new approach to designing baby boxes, a type of starter kit distributed to new mothers in Finland.

Seven finalists were selected from 135 total applicants from across the world, all of whom contributed novel ideas to promote child health, detect childhood disease earlier and facilitate healthy parenting.

The eventual winner will receive up to $150,000 (111,600 pounds) in funding, with additional support available through the achievement of proof-of-concept milestones that further validate the impact of their ideas.

Dr Ben Wiegand, global head of the World Without Disease Accelerator at Janssen, said: "We hope to nurture groundbreaking solutions for the future that contribute to the value of the successful Finnish Baby Box, an 80-year-old programme that brings health essentials to newborns and parents."
