Johnson and Johnson to acquire Flexible Stenting Solutions

22nd March 2013

Johnson and Johnson has announced that its Cordis division has agreed a deal to purchase the medical technology firm Flexible Stenting Solutions.

The purchased company is a manufacturer of innovative flexible peripheral arterial, venous and biliary stents, including the FlexStent self-expanding stent system, for use in the treatment of peripheral artery disease.

By acquiring the company, Cordis will be able to complement its own offerings in this field such as the SMART vascular stent, while expanding its therapeutic applications into below-the-knee and venous interventions.

The firm has been making efforts to broaden its presence in this market, recently gaining superficial femoral artery and proximal popliteal artery indications for the SMART stent.

Shlomi Nachman, chairman of Cordis Corporation, said: "This acquisition will enable Cordis to provide clinicians more options to meet their evolving therapeutic needs and to strengthen our leadership position in the treatment of vascular disease."

This comes after Johnson and Johnson announced plans to broaden its research capabilities by creating a new innovation centre in London earlier this week.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801561267-ADNFCR
