KCI announces takeover of Systagenix

31st July 2013

KCI has announced that it will be acquiring the advanced wound care product developer Systagenix in a deal worth $485 million (320.1 million pounds).

The takeover of the UK-based firm strengthens KCI's status as a leading wound care company, specifically by enhancing its access to the $3.4 billion advanced wound care market.

Systagenix's product portfolio includes moist wound healing dressings such as Promogran Prisma, Tielle and Adaptic, with its manufacturing, marketing and sales teams supplying more than 20 million dressings each month to customers in over 100 countries.

Formerly a division of Johnson and Johnson, the firm employs around 800 people worldwide and operates a production facility in Gargrave, North Yorkshire.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2013 and will see One Equity Partners spin off an early-stage diagnostics business out of Systagenix.

Joe Woody, president and chief executive officer at KCI, said: "This major strategic investment will diversify KCI's global portfolio of wound care products and reinforces our competitive advantage as the trusted gold standard in wound healing."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801619172-ADNFCR
