KCI launches new incision management system

26th August 2010

KCI has announced the launch of a new incision management system which is designed to help wounds to heal more effectively post-surgery.

The new Prevena device is part of KCI's negative pressure technology platform and is designed for use on clean, closed incisions that continue to drain following sutured or stapled closure.

It serves to protect the surgical site from contamination by providing a clean and sterile environment, while also removing infectious material and keeping the edges of the incision together.

This helps to prevent against common complications dehiscence, hematoma and seroma, which can often affect quality of life, lengthen hospital stays and lead to increased care costs.

Mike Genau, global president of KCI's active healing solutions unit, said: "An operation is a success when the incision heals without incident. The Prevena System is designed to promote that favourable healing environment."

Last month, KCI announced the opening of a new advanced research and technology centre in order to enhance its product development capabilities.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800041195-ADNFCR
