Kristin Ryan Speaks on Healthcare and CES 2023

12th January 2023

One of the largest technology conferences, CES 2023, took place last week in Las Vegas and featured speakers from top companies including Nvidia, Samsung, and LG.

The IT industry is becoming more and more interested in healthcare and ways to improve patient care in the future.

Kristin Ryan, who came onboard as EVP of GCI Health in 2020, partook in an interview. She expressed that the conference honours many companies within the healthcare sector as part of their Innovation Awards. Taking a dive into “a few key areas” that she is interested in and keeping up with.

“Going into 2022, we saw the rise of the metaverse. I definitely expect to see companies that are focused on virtual reality and augmented reality enter the healthcare space.”

In recent years “digital focus on healthcare has exploded.”

CES is a hub for domestic and international businesses to display “products they’ve been prototyping and testing over the past couple of years.”

The industry is looking at ways to experience care virtually, connect with people, and bring healthcare home.

Following the pandemic, patients “expect to be able to interact with their healthcare provider when they want and need to, whether it’s virtually or in-person while also having that access to care and information from home.”

Market “entrants like Amazon” have changed the way consumers view service. “That is going to impact some of these direct-to-consumer healthcare innovations. Insurers are definitely responding to this shift in patient and consumer expectations” by “including virtual care in their patient care plans”.

“Since 2021, people have been much more concerned with their data.” Particularly regarding their privacy, which includes health documents. Ryan is anticipating there will be a lot more noise “about data practices and that will be a cornerstone of every offering that is showcased.”

GCI has massively increased their capabilities since 2020, “doubling down on our experiential and innovation arm in digital.”

They are “leading the way with bringing content to Web3 and understanding realistic ways to enter that space for our healthcare clients”, staying “on top of the way people are consuming media and technology is the best way to ensure that we’re getting them the information that they need.”
