Leader chosen for new Pharmacy and Public Health Forum

13th July 2011

The Department of Health has announced that Professor Richard Parish has been selected as chairman to lead the establishment of the new Pharmacy and Public Health Forum.

Professor Parish is the current chief executive of the Royal Society for Public Health and will lead the forum in its aim to expand the role of pharmacies in supporting the government's public health improvement drive.

The appointment was announced during the All Party Pharmacy Group's summer reception by health minister Lord Howe, who praised the new chairman for the "wealth of knowledge" he will bring to the role.

Professor Parish stated that the forum initiative is an "enormously exciting" scheme that will help to improve public health.

"95 percent of the population lives within 20 minutes walk of a community pharmacy. They have the local knowledge and professional skills to make a major contribution," he added.

Last month, the National Pharmacy Association noted that one way in which pharmacists can aid public health initiatives is by dispensing advice on possible side effects of drugs.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800620373-ADNFCR
