Leica Biosystems to support government-backed AI pathology project
Leica Biosystems has announced that it will be working alongside the British government on a new project that aims to find ways of leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) in pathology applications.
The firm has been selected to support a life sciences sector deal announced last month, which will see UK science firms partner with the British government to generate new investment into the development of trailblazing digital pathology workflows that leverage AI capabilities.
Leica's Aperio digital pathology solutions will be used to support this work, aiding researchers in their automated image analysis efforts by improving efficiency and accuracy.
Jerome Clavel, vice-president and general manager for Leica Biosystems' pathology imaging business, said: "Leica Biosystems has large investments and a keen interest in the growing UK market. Government stimulus funding will certainly accelerate the development and adoption of new digital pathology applications."
Leica Biosystems has a wide range of image analysis applications already in use by all ten of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, with these applications referenced in more than 300 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
