Leica Microsystems acquires US firm

23rd January 2008

Leica Microsystems has announced that it acquired Cell Analysis at the end of last year.

The firm is set to benefit from the Chicago-based company’s imaging software, which it will adapt to include in its Microsystems’ Biosystems division portfolio of products.

According to Leica, the software system enables users to quantify staining in tumour cells and help them to make "precise" diagnoses.

The software was developed by two pathologists in partnership with the chief executive officer of Cell Analysis.

"This imaging software is used with a microscope in the histopathological workflow following advanced staining, for instance, by the Leica Bond system," the company stated.

In related news, Leica Microsystems recently acquired the assets of Vienna-based form Life Optics, which develops and markets head-mounted optical systems.

Leica has manufacturing facilities in seven countries and is represented in more than 100 states around the world.

The company’s headquarters are based in Wetzlar, Germany.
