Leica Microsystems marks 20th anniversary of IGBMC collaboration

9th November 2017

Leica Microsystems is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its collaboration with the Institute of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology (IGBMC) in France.

The microscopy technology firm chose to extend the partnership with IGBMC, one of Europe's leading centres for biomedical research, earlier this year, based on the success they have enjoyed together to date.

A number of groundbreaking developments have been made possible by the collaboration, including the development of new macroscopy instruments, a model for confocal macro-imaging, and additional specialist accessories for stereo and light sheet microscopy.

Of particular note was the 2005 project that resulted in the development of the Leica Macro Fluo, a microscope developed for the observation of animal and plant material, which is being considered for deployment by the International Space Station.

Fedja Bobanovic, vice-president for life science at Leica Microsystems, said: "A long partnership is based on passion for innovation; opening innovation is the most important thing for the future decade. It is why we are partnering with IGBMC, an institute always innovating."
