Leica Microsystems to supply non-contact microdissection slides

12th September 2007

Leica Microsystems is to provide Expression Pathology’s Director microdissection glass slides, it has been reported.

A sales agreement between the two firms means that scientists can now purchase the slides together with Leica’s LMD6000 laser system, thus allowing laboratory staff to carry out microdissection directly into a sample buffer, according to the company.

Requiring no membrane, the Director slides make use of a proprietary energy transfer coating bonded to a glass support which absorbs all laser energy to protect sensitive molecules such as DNA or RNA.

The slides are inert to a large range of thermal and chemical conditions and show no autofluorescence. They can also be autoclaved and are stable in organic solvents and can be rendered sterile with any standard method, reports Leica.

A new range of digital recording systems – designed to ensure a consistently high standard of process quality – was launched by the company earlier this year.
