Life Technologies to acquire AcroMetrix

13th January 2010

Life Technologies, the organisation that was formed following the merger between Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems, has announced that it will acquire AcroMetrix.

The latter firm specialises in the supply of molecular and serological diagnostic quality control products to blood screening centres, laboratories and in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) manufacturers.

According to Life Technologies, the move will better position it to build upon its ability to provide tools and technologies to customers in need of molecular diagnostics equipment.

Gregory Lucier, chairman and chief executive officer of the organisation, stated: “With the growth of DNA and other molecular-based tests, there is a growing need for high-quality, independently provided controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of laboratory test results.”

This is not the first acquisition Life Technologies has announced recently.

Last month, the firm revealed that it had bought out BioTrove and will be able to utilise its primary technology the OpenArray platform – a high-throughput genotyping analysis and gene expression system.
