Lilly announces changes to board of directors

Lilly has announced the election of Douglas Oberhelman to it board of directors.

The company states his new position will be effective as of December 1st.

Mr Oberhelman is currently a group president of industrial machinery and equipment company Caterpillar and is a member of its executive office.

In his new role, he will serve on both the board’s finance and audit committees, as well as standing for election by Lilly’s shareholders at the firm’s next annual meeting in April next year.

Sidney Taurel, chairman of Lilly, said the firm is “very pleased” to welcome Mr Oberhelman to the board, adding he has demonstrated strong leadership in his 33-year tenure with Caterpillar.

He states his international management experience will serve the shareholders of the firm well as the company moves to expand its presence in Asia, also citing his financial acumen and prior role as chief financial officer as Caterpillar as bringing “valuable insights” to the board’s committees.

Dr John Lechleiter, president and chief executive officer of Lilly, adds he looks forward to working with Mr Oberhelman – and the other members of the board – to deliver increased value for its shareholders.

“Doug’s experiences will directly support several key aspects of our strategy, including our commitment to be more customer-focused, more productive and more global in our scope and reach,” he continues.
