Lilly launches new treatment administration device

17th October 2008

Lilly has announced its new Forteo delivery device is available for patient use in the USA.

According to the company, the device was designed especially for Forteo – teriparatide (rDNA origin) injection – patients in order to help them administer their own treatment more easily on a day-to-day basis.

The device was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in June and is available for eligible individuals when they fill their prescriptions over the coming weeks.

Vladimir Kopernicky, medical director of US osteoporosis and urology for the firm, states Lilly is committed to improving the lives of patients through the creation of effective treatment delivery mechanisms.

“We hope that this simpler design will help patients adhere to their Forteo treatment plan so they can receive the full benefits of their medication,” he adds.

In order to assess how easy to use the new device is, Lilly carried out a trial on 106 non-experienced users – subjects with limited or no experience of using the pen.

The study found 98 per cent of respondents agreed it was easy to learn how to use and the same proportion said it was easy to administer Forteo treatment with it.

In recent days, Lilly announced it had commenced a cash tender offer for ImClone Systems.
