Lilly names new treasurer and finance head

Lilly has announced the appointment of Joshua Smiley as its new senior vice-president for finance and treasurer, effective as of October 1st.

Mr Smiley currently serves as senior vice-president for finance at Lilly and as controller and chief financial officer of the Lilly Research Laboratories. He has been named as the successor to Thomas Grein, who will retire in September after a 41-year career at Lilly.

Anat Ashkenazi, vice-president for finance and chief financial officer for Lilly Manufacturing, Global Quality and Lilly Diabetes, has been selected to replace Mr Smiley in his previous role once he vacates it in October.

Derica Rice, Lilly's executive vice-president for global services and chief financial officer, said: "Josh's knowledge and skill helped to place Lilly in a position of strength. Josh is a strong analytical and strategic thinker who excels at distilling complex business matters into clear thoughts and actions."

Ms Rice also paid tribute to the outgoing Mr Grein, who has been credited with helping Lilly to maintain a strong balance sheet and cash flow during his time with the business, allowing it to make key acquisitions and deliver favourable dividends to shareholders.
