Lilly to build new centre designed to speed up development

16th September 2009

Lilly has revealed that it plans to establish a new development centre of excellence in order to speed up medicine distribution from its pipeline directly to patients.

Additionally, the firm will reorganise its pharmaceutical business into four units that will operate alongside Elanco – its animal health business division.

It has also revealed its intentions to significantly reduce its cost structure by the end of 2011, something it aims to achieve with the establishment of a new set of future goals.

John Lechleiter, chairman and chief executive officer of Lilly, said: “The changes we are announcing today will accelerate the progress of the most exciting pipeline in our history, with more than 60 molecules currently in clinical development.”

Lilly launched an online video library last week, detailing the experiences of writer and sociologist Martha Beck in relation to living with the painful condition fibromyalgia.

Along with the National Fibromyalgia Association, the company is a joint sponsor of the Know Fibro initiative.
