Lilly welcomes new board member

3rd June 2009

Lilly is pleased to welcome David Hoover to its board of directors, it has stated.

In 1970, Mr Hoover joined Ball Corporation ? a provider of packaging, household products, aerospace and other technologies ? and has been promoted to various positions throughout the years. Since April 2002, he has been the chairman, president and chief executive officer of the company.

Mr Hoover is a member of a number of boards ? such as for the National Association of Manufacturers, Energizer Holdings and Irwin Financial Corporation.

As a new addition to Lilly, he will serve on both the compensation and audit committees.

Chairman and chief executive officer Dr John Lechleiter noted Mr Hoover has shown strong business leadership and deep financial expertise during his forty years at Ball Corporation.

“His experience and insights will surely benefit Lilly shareholders as we continue to transform our company and deliver on our mission to provide improved outcomes for individual patients,” Dr Lechleiter commented.

After serving under interim election, Mr Hoover will stand for appointment by the company’s shareholders at the 2010 annual meeting.

In April this year, Lilly appointed Susan Mahony as senior vive-president of human resources.
