L’Oreal celebrates important milestone

L’Oreal has reached an important milestone in its career.

Some 67,500 members of staff across 65 countries will be celebrating its 100th anniversary.

In 1909, the chemist Eugene Schueller began the single company in Paris.

From pharmacies to hair salons, there are now 23 global brands across a number of cultures – including Europe, Asia and America ? and sales for 2008 came in at 17.5 billion euros (15.3 billion pounds).

The company asserted it has a clear strategic vision to make beauty accessible to as many people as possible all over the world.

Chief executive officer Jean-Paul Agon remarked the firm has a strong belief that beauty can play a vital role in society.

“Our centenary is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to our vision and our values – a robust scientific approach, a constant quest for innovation, a taste for real challenge, respect for diversity,” he remarked.

To celebrate its 100th year of trading, more than 3,000 L’Oreal employees volunteered in their local communities to do a number of chores from planting shrubs to painting buildings.

President and chief executive officer of the business’ American division Laurent Attal explained these actions reflected values the company has held for a century.
