L’Oreal named as global leader in climate change strategy

27th October 2016

L'Oreal has been recognised for its industry-leading commitment to climate change mitigation in a new CDP report.

The company has been given an A grade in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index – the highest level of performance – for the fourth consecutive year, thanks to its efforts in managing its carbon footprint, creating a sound climate change strategy and ensuring transparency in its policies.

L'Oreal has committed to reducing CO2 emissions from its production by 60 percent from 2005 levels by 2020 at the latest. Last year, the firm was able to cut CO2 emissions by 56 percent for the 2005-15 period, despite a 26 percent rise in production over the same timeframe.

This was due to the success of the company's strategy of improving energy efficiency across facilities, increasing the use of renewable energy and developing low-carbon innovations.

Additionally, the organisation been a member of CDP's Supply Chain Program – which encourages suppliers to measure and manage their CO2 emissions – since 2007.

Jean-Paul Agon, chairman and chief executive officer of L'Oreal, said: "We are very proud of this renewed recognition that encourages us to go further and to accelerate L'Oreal's transition to a low-carbon business."
