L’Oreal to purchase CeraVe, AcneFree and Ambi brands from Valeant

12th January 2017

L'Oreal has agreed a deal to acquire the skincare brands CeraVe, AcneFree and Ambi from Valeant in a deal worth $1.3 billion (1.06 billion pounds).

The three brands will become part of L'Oreal's active cosmetics division following the completion of the deal, and between them are expected to generate an annualised combined revenue of approximately $168 million.

CeraVe was launched in 2005 and encompasses a range of advanced skincare products, including cleansers, moisturisers, sunscreens, healing ointments and a dedicated baby line. It is one of the fastest growing skincare brands in the US, with average growth of more than 20 percent over the past two years.

The AcneFree brand, meanwhile, consists of a selection of over-the-counter cleansers and acne treatments, with the Ambi range of skincare products formulated specifically for the needs of multicultural consumers.

Brigitte Liberman, president of L'Oreal's active cosmetics division, said: "These brands will deepen our relationships with health professionals and will strengthen our positions in North America in this key and fast-growing market."
