Lunar cycle ‘has no impact on human health’

31st March 2015

New research has further disproved the theory that the moon has an impact on human health.

Even within the nursing profession there is a commonly-held belief that the lunar cycle can have an impact on a wide range of health issues, including birth rates, hospital admissions and depression.

However, this theory has already been disproved by scientists and a new study from the University of California, Los Angeles has reinforced this reality.

Jean-Luc Margot, professor of planetary astronomy at the university, re-assessed the results of 2004 research that had suggested the full moon influenced the number of hospital admissions in a medical unit in Barcelona.

He found numerous flaws in the data collection and analysis used in this study and was able to demonstrate the number of admissions were in no way related to the lunar cycle.

"The moon is innocent," Dr Margot stated, adding that disproving commonly-held beliefs such as this may be a step towards eradicating more dangerous theories such as fears about the safety of the measles vaccine.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801781937-ADNFCR
