Mast Group introduces new Influenza A Subtyping Kit

25th September 2009

Mast Group has introduced a new product onto the market as the autumn flu season approaches – its Seeplex Flu A ACE kit.

Designed to handle the subtyping of influenza A strains, the equipment is the first of its kind to be introduced to the market and detects the presence of the virus in patients.

It also has the ability to differentiate between various strains of flu, including influenza A subtype seasonal H1 (human H1), influenza A subtype seasonal H3 (human H3), influenza A subtype avian H5 (avian H5) and new influenza A subtype H1 (swine H1).

The ability to determine between various subtypes of the virus enables medical experts to prescribe more targeted therapies for their infected patients, Mast Group points out.

For example, it adds, those diagnosed as having the 2009 pandemic H1 strain can then be administered either Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or Zanamivir (Relenza).

Another offering from Mast Group within the last month is its Seegene CE-marked Seeplex Diarrhoea multiplex PCR test, which works from direct stool samples and is capable of detecting 15 different bacterial, toxin and viral pathogens within five hours.
