Medtronic and Garmin announce technology integration partnership

Medtronic has announced a new technology partnership with Garmin to enhance patient monitoring capabilities.

The alliance will see Garmin's Vivofit wearable device data integrated directly into Medtronic Care Management Services' remote patient monitoring platform NetResponse to help track patient health at home.

It means the Vivofit tracker is now included as one of the Bluetooth-connected peripheral device options providers can choose for their patients, giving clinicians further context beyond the biometrics and other patient-reported symptom information.

This will provide doctors with an enhanced view of their patients' health status, while allowing patients themselves to direct their own self-care. 

Sheri Dodd, vice-president and general manager of Medtronic Care Management Services, said: "We are excited to bring this unique integration into our industry-leading services to help enhance the healthcare and post-discharge recovery support care providers can give to their patients, especially those living with chronic conditions."

Garmin's technology offers a number of design benefits, including water resistance and a long battery life, to help increase convenience and usage for patients participating in remote patient monitoring programmes.
