Medtronic and Philips to commercialise new lung cancer management platform
Medtronic has announced a new partnership with Philips on the development of a new comprehensive patient and data management platform for lung cancer.
The companies will work together to develop and commercialise the LungGPS Patient Management Platform, which streamlines the management of lung nodule patients from identification through to diagnosis, treatment and long-term survival.
LungGPS uses Natural Language Processing, a new form of artificial intelligence technology that quickly searches and analyses data from multiple medical reports and highlights relevant information. It also incorporates Philips' Lung Cancer Screening Solution, a software system that automates administrative tasks and standardises clinical workflows.
Currently, incidental lung nodule tracking is a largely manual process based on spreadsheets and physical note-taking, meaning a considerable need exists for more modern and efficient management systems.
Matt Anderson, vice-president and general manager of lung health at Medtronic, said: "No one single company can tackle this alone and through our collaboration with Philips, we have the opportunity to help achieve better outcomes for these patients – using technology to promote integrated care."
