Medtronic chairman and CEO to retire in 2011

22nd December 2010

Medtronic's chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) William Hawkins is to retire from the company at the end of the current fiscal year.

The medical technology manufacturer has announced that an external search for a new chairman and CEO has begun ahead of Mr Hawkins' proposed departure after April 29th 2011.

Mr Hawkins has served at Medtronic since 2002 and became CEO in 2007, with the company's board praising the positive impact he has made during his time as its leader.

It was also confirmed that he will remain in his position until a successor is appointed in order to ensure a smooth transition is achieved.

Mr Hawkins said: "I am proud of what we have accomplished during my tenure at Medtronic and am confident that we made the right investments in talent, quality and innovation to position the company for long-term growth."

This comes in the same week that Medtronic expressed its sadness over the news of the passing of its former chairman and CEO Winston Wallin at the age of 84.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800306664-ADNFCR
