Medtronic commences work on new Chengdu Innovation Centre

Medtronic has announced the commencement of building work of a new innovation centre in Chengdu, China, to be opened in 2020.

The Chengdu Innovation Centre will be located at the Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park in Sichuan Province and will provide a cross-disciplinary clinical training and research platform for medical workers in Sichuan and other central and western regions.

A groundbreaking ceremony has already taken place to begin the development of the centre, which will provide one-stop clinical training facilities spanning diverse disciplines, including surgery, intensive care, internal medicine and anaesthetics, as well as disease areas such as cardiovascular, cancer, respiratory, nervous system, gastrointestinal and renal diseases.

It will be equipped with cutting-edge simulation systems and equipment, helping to improve clinical skills and increase learning efficiency among medical workers in parts of China that are currently facing knowledge gaps.

Within five years of operation, Medtronic projects an annual training capacity of approximately 7,000 healthcare professionals at the new centre.
