Medtronic launches RestoreSensor SureScan MRI neurostimulation system

8th August 2013

Medtronic has announced the commercial launch of the EU and US-approved RestoreSensor SureScan MRI neurostimulation system.

The product has received its first patient implantations in the US and represents an innovative implantable neurostimulation solution for use in the treatment of chronic, intractable back and/or limb pain that is compatible with full-body MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans.

Medtronic's neurostimulation systems feature SureScan MRI technology and Vectris SureScan MRI percutaneous leads, which have been specially designed with enhancements to reduce or eliminate the hazards produced by the MRI environment.

Previously, it was not possible to use this type of imaging on patients with spinal cord stimulation implants, despite the key role MRI plays in the treatment of chronic pain, spinal disease, neurological and orthopaedic disorders.

Julie Foster, general manager and vice-president for pain stimulation and targeted drug delivery in the neuromodulation business of Medtronic, said: "This latest innovation is yet another example of our ongoing commitment to provide clinicians with safe, effective solutions to meet the needs of their patients."

This comes after the firm announced the global introduction of a new screw for its market-leading CD Horizon Solera Spinal System last month.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801622708-ADNFCR
