Medtronic receives CE Mark approval for SureTune3 software
Medtronic has announced that its new SureTune3 software for deep brain stimulation (DBS) has received European CE Mark approval.
SureTune3 offers patient-specific visualisation of lead location and simulated volume of neural activation, aiding physicians in the programming and tuning of patients' DBS therapy by offering a more streamlined workflow.
It also contains a 3D deformable atlas to allow physicians to more precisely define anatomical structures and the targeted region of the brain. The system is fully downloadable, with the option to work over a hospital's server.
Brett Wall, senior vice-president and president of Medtronic's brain therapies division, said: "The latest innovations to our SureTune software take the Medtronic DBS solution to the next level: beyond our former innovations of MR-conditional devices, and beyond the standard visualisation of the stimulation field."
Medtronic's DBS therapy can be used in the treatment of diseases such as Parkinson's to address tremors and other symptoms by normalising the activity of the relevant brain circuits.
Its full-body MR-conditional status means it can be left on during an MRI scan with no risk of interference.
