Medtronic wins award for Hydrodebrider system

12th April 2010

Medtronic has won recognition for the quality of its Hydrodebrider system for sinusitis treatment in the form of an industry award.

The company was presented with a 2010 Medical Device Excellence Award for the endoscopic irrigation system, a title which honours innovation in design, engineering and processes.

Medtronic identifies its winning device as the only powered endoscopic irrigation system designed for treatment of the prenasal sinuses, offering treatment against sinusitis through the removal of bacteria.

It states that its innovative design even allows it to clean the medial wall and floor of the maxillary sinuses, areas which are traditionally awkward and difficult for surgeons to reach.

This comes a week after the company launched the new frontal handpiece for the device, allowing it to also be used to treat the frontal sinuses.

Dr Bryan Jones, microbiologist and associate product manager for rhinology in the ear, nose and throat division at Medtronic, said this addition gives clinicians “additional flexibility”.
