Medtronic’s Guardian Connect glucose monitoring system receives CE Mark
Medtronic has announced that its new Guardian Connect mobile continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system has been granted European CE Mark approval.
Designed for people with diabetes using insulin injection therapy, the device is the first smartphone-enabled CGM system from Medtronic to receive this certification. It will be launched on a country-by-country basis in the second quarter of the 2017 fiscal year.
It allows people receiving insulin injections to check their current glucose level at any time using their mobile device, while receiving reminders flagging up high or low glucose levels, including through customisable SMS text alerts.
The system also features the option to automatically upload the data daily to the CareLink therapy management software, meaning this process no longer needs to be managed manually.
Annette Bruls, president for diabetes services and solutions at Medtronic, said: "Expanding our solutions to help more people with diabetes no matter where they are on the care continuum is central to our goal of transforming diabetes care for greater freedom and better health."
This comes after the firm introduced a pair of new minimally invasive spine fusion procedures earlier this month.
