Medtronic’s Physio-Control unit to launch RhinoChill in EU

14th February 2011

Medtronic subsidiary Physio-Control is allying with BeneChill to launch a new portable therapeutic hypothermia solution in Europe.

The strategic partnership will see the two companies ally to bring the RhinoChill IntraNasal Cooling System to a number of EU markets during the first quarter of 2011, including the UK, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

RhinoChill functions by using a non-invasive nasal catheter to spray a rapidly evaporating, inert coolant liquid into the nasal cavity, thereby removing heat from the base of the skull.

In addition to launching the device in Europe, the companies will be aiming to organise a US release, as well as collaborating on the development of further BeneChill products.

Brian Webster, president of Physio-Control, said: "Therapeutic hypothermia can be a vital tool in improving survival from sudden cardiac arrest and is therefore essential to our company's mission."

Last week, Medtronic published a study showcasing the benefits its intrathecal baclofen therapy option can deliver for multiple sclerosis patients affected by severe spasticity.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-800403076-ADNFCR
