Medtronic’s SureTune2 software receives CE Mark approval

15th August 2016

Medtronic has announced that its SureTune2 software for deep brain stimulation has been granted European CE Mark approval.

The software is designed to provide patient-specific visualisation tools to help physicians make the best decisions on how to programme or tune their patient's deep brain stimulation therapy, in conjunction with therapy delivery systems from Medtronic or other manufacturers.

Patient-specific information can be compiled into a single comprehensive view, including anatomy, physiology and calculated stimulation fields. Users can segment structures using a greyscale threshold within a region of interest, or by outlining shapes from a patient image.

As such, it simplifies some of the trial-and-error processes associated with deep brain stimulation programming by making it easier to select the best contacts, thereby saving time for medical professionals.

Dr Lothar Krinke, vice-president and general manager of Medtronic's brain modulation business, said: "SureTune is a key aspect of Medtronic's commitment to providing integrated solutions for improving accuracy and confidence from surgery to post-operative DBS patient management."

This comes after the company's CoreValve Evolut R System received CE Mark approval for the treatment of aortic stenosis patients earlier this month.
