Merck extends strategic manufacturing alliance with Samsung BioLogics

Merck has signed a memorandum of understanding to extend its current manufacturing alliance with Samsung BioLogics.

The new-look biopharmaceutical manufacturing and biologics process development partnership will accelerate process development and clinical material production at small biotech start-ups for which Samsung BioLogics acts as a contract manufacturer.

Under the agreement, Merck would provide process development and support technical training, in addition to supplying its Mobius single-use systems to Samsung BioLogics.

The companies have been working together since 2014 on a long-term supply agreement that has seen Merck provide its partner with raw materials for biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

It has served as the key solution provider for Samsung BioLogics' 30KL facility and 152KL facility in South Korea, and has trained the company's team on building a robust biologics development process.

Udit Batra, member of the Merck executive board and chief executive officer for life science, said: "Our collaboration with Samsung continues to strengthen with this agreement. Merck's process development expertise and Mobius, the wide single-use bioprocessing portfolio, will allow innovations to reach patients faster."
