Merck in talks to purchase companies

30th January 2009

Merck is currently in talks to purchase drug, specialty chemicals and food and beverage companies, it has emerged.

According to the firm’s chief executive officer Marek Dziki, 2009 was starting to look promising for the company’s growth plans.

He went on to note the talks are in “advanced stages”, but the organisation was not in a hurry.

According to HT Media on the Live Mint website, Mr Dziki added: “Our priority for the target is better business model and proven track record for at least seven to eight years in the local market.”

In November, Merck said it had “reaffirmed” its commitment to discovering and developing treatments for cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, heart failure and atherosclerosis.

Speaking at the time, Dr Peter Kim, president of the company’s research laboratories, stated the organisation was confident progress can be made in finding therapies to treat the illnesses.

Estabilished in 1891, Merck currently employs 59,800 people.
