Merck Serono calls for Grant for Growth Innovation applications

Merck Serono has issued a reminder to the health research community that the deadline for its Grant for Growth Innovation scheme is fast approaching.

Innovative research projects can still apply for grants totalling up to 400,000 euros (336,300 pounds) until December 1st 2013, with Merck Serono looking to support efforts to advance science and medical research in the field of human growth.

Applications will be evaluated by an independent scientific steering committee of internationally renowned endocrinologists, according to five criteria – innovation, scientific rationale, clarity, feasibility and impact.

The winners will be announced at the 53rd European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology meeting in Dublin, which will take place from September 18th to 20th 2014.

Annalisa Jenkins, executive vice-president and head of global research and development for Merck Serono, said: "The novel scientific proposals that are funded through the Grant for Growth Innovation will help accelerate our goal to translate scientific insights into better outcomes for patients living with growth hormone disorders."

Last month, the company announced a new five-year strategic partnership with Germany's Lead Discovery Centre, which will aid the development of therapeutic candidates in areas of high unmet medical need.
