29th September 2015

Merck Serono has announced the winners of parent company Merck KGaA's Grant for Oncology Innovation scheme.

Grants totaling one million euros (739,880 pounds) are being allocated via the scheme, which supports renowned oncologists and researchers who are exploring innovative research in the personalised treatment of solid tumours.

Dr Roberto Chiarle at the University of Turin has received funding for his proposal to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying relapse in lung cancer patients, while Dr Josep Maria Piulats Rodriguez of the Catalan Institute of Oncology was recognised for his work studying immunogenic mutations and personalised cancer-specific vaccines.

Finally, Dr Rodrigo Dienstmann of the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology was allocated a grant to help analyse clinical and gene expression data to inform the design of early clinical trials for colorectal cancer therapies.

Belen Garijo, member of the executive board and chief executive officer for healthcare at Merck KGaA, said: "Their groundbreaking work helps us better understand solid tumour biology, pushing us closer to personalised cancer therapies that could one day change patients' lives."ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801801721-ADNFCR
