Merck subsidiary opens German biopharmaceutical plant
Merck Pharmaceuticals subsidiary Allergopharma has announced the opening of its new biopharmaceutical production plant in Reinbek, Germany.
The new site cost 42 million euros (36 million pounds) to construct and will house several hundred of Allergopharma's staff. The Merck subsidiary has been in operation for almost 50 years and employs more than 600 experts in total, all of whom are dedicated to finding new therapies to treat allergies and their associated symptoms.
At the moment, the company is focusing on immunotherapy treatments for allergens in particular.
Marco Linari, chief executive officer of Allergopharma, commented: "The new biopharmaceutical production is a quantum leap. It means an increase in supply safety for patients, a further improvement of product quality and future innovations towards improving therapy."
Torsten Albig, minister-president of the Schleswig-Holstein region, which Reinbek is a part of, praised Allergopharma for boosting employment in the area and for its significant contribution to the area's economy.
