Merck to acquire food safety testing leader BioControl Systems

Merck has announced the acquisition of BioControl Systems, a global leader in the field of food safety testing.

BioControl offers an established portfolio of rapid detection technology and third-party validated testing platforms, providing Merck with considerable scope for growth in the food and beverage space.

Its offerings are expected to complement Merck's portfolio of instruments and consumables in its applied solutions business geared to the food pathogen testing workflow, allowing the company to address a broad range of challenges in the food pathogen testing space/

Merck is keen to invest more in this field due to the growing focus on food safety worldwide following recent incidents of outbreaks and recalls resulting from foodborne diseases, often caused by consuming foods such as undercooked meat, eggs, fresh produce and dairy products.
