Merial and DSM announce vaccine research alliance

23rd October 2012

Merial is joining forces with DSM Nutritional Products to carry out novel research into animal vaccines.

The collaboration will see Merial provide DSM with funding to support the development of animal vaccine antigens using a proprietary algal expression system.

It is thought that this method, which utilises microbial algae as a growth platform, may offer a faster and more efficient means of production than complex traditional models.

Should an animal vaccine product be successfully produced through this method,  DSM and Merial will either enter into a commercial supply agreement, or Merial will purchase the manufacturing rights in exchange of a technology transfer fee.

Bob Nordgren, head of research and development at Merial Biologicals, said: "Merial is pleased to join with DSM and explore innovative vaccine product solutions by developing manufacturing processes that are simple and cost-effective."

Last month, the company published an industry study highlighting the impact of gutworm on UK dairy producers annually, while endorsing the benefits of its wormer product Eprinex.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801474719-ADNFCR
