Merial highlights growing need for poultry health measures

23rd May 2014

Merial has highlighted the need for more proactive approaches to poultry health management at a recent industry forum in France.

The Third Global Avian Forum, which was recently hosted by the company in France, saw 500 participants from 68 countries convening to discuss and address key challenges facing the poultry industry.

It was noted that by 2050, 70 percent more food will be required to feed the world's population, while chicken will overtake pork as the global animal protein of choice by 2020, meaning the poultry industry will see growing demand.

As such, this will necessitate the introduction of sophisticated vaccination programmes, high-quality veterinary care and the introduction of new products, novel equipment and services to help improve immunity and control new disease strains.

Michel Bublot, Merial's avian research programme leader, said: "We realise that the most effective way to control infectious diseases is to prevent them from even entering the flock."

The firm is one of the world's biggest animal health companies, with around 50 projects in development by 2015 for different species.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801722900-ADNFCR
