Mettler-Toledo releases new product inspection device

22nd August 2008

Mettler-Toledo has launched a new horizontal multi-beam system which can inspect cans’ cross sections.

According to the company, the Canchek X-ray device can detect any contaminants which may be in the densest areas of the can, including the top, base and sidewalls as they appear on screen as dark elongated edges, reports ProcessingTalk.com.

It also notes that the system incorporates multi-beam technology and new adaptive filtering software, which "offers superior detection sensitivity and is able to identify a range of foreign bodies".

These features allow the Canchek to inspect closed cans.

Commenting on the device, Niall McRory, European sales and marketing manager at Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray, said: "During the final stages of the canning process, X-ray is the only viable method of contamination detection."

"By automatically rejecting any cans containing foreign bodies such as metal, glass, stone and bone, manufacturers can optimise quality and safety, avoiding recalls, which can have a devastating impact on their brands," he added.

Earlier this month, Mettler-Toledo reported that it has launched a new solution for manufacturers doing statistical quality control in a wet environment – the IND469rem terminal and KA3s/KA6s scales.
