MHRA Opens the Floor for Healthcare Professionals’ Opinions

14th October 2022

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) safety communications and safety reporting mechanisms provide a rare opening for healthcare professionals and their teams to express their opinions and make their voices heard.

In order to hear from healthcare professionals throughout the UK on their preferred level of involvement, method and frequency of receival for important safety updates, and input on the Yellow Card safety reporting scheme, a 14-week public conference has begun. The opinions shared during the conference will help provide the best treatment possible to patients.

Correspondence and communication between healthcare specialists and the MHRA is essential to ensuring that patients receive safe and successful drugs and devices. Furthermore, it is imperative that they are knowledgeable about the both the potential advantages and dangers, and that any worries are documented and addressed as soon as possible.

On four critical topics relating to the MHRA: safety reporting systems, regulatory judgments, public awareness of safety involvement, and how easy it is for healthcare professionals to communicate their knowledge and experience, a range of medical specialists from GP’s to Royal Colleges have been requested to share their opinions.

Chief Executive of MHRA, Dr June Raine, expressed that “we want to learn from a wide range of healthcare professionals and use this to develop a new approach that improves how safety information and reporting systems are communicated and used.”
