Microsoft hires Edelman staffer to lead global comms for Xbox
Microsoft has hired a veteran comms professional from Edelman as the new head of global communications for its Xbox console business.
As global comms head for the Xbox unit, Mr Birge will lead the company's strategy for gaming, which includes not only the Xbox brand but also gaming on Windows 10 and Microsoft Studios franchises such as Minecraft, Halo, Gears of War and Forza, reports PRWeek.
He joins the firm from the Edelman subsidiary Assembly, a shop specifically formed to lead US-based public relations, digital, social, measurement and creative work for Microsoft properties including Xbox, Microsoft Stores and the Microsoft central marketing group.
Mr Birge was the head of Assembly for three years, after previously serving as global client relationship manager and executive vice-president at Edelman for nearly 11 years.
Lisa Sepulveda, chief client officer at Edelman, said Mr Birge was "an outstanding global client relationship manager on the Microsoft business while at Assembly, and we wish him the very best of luck in his new role at Microsoft".
She confirmed that a successor will be named in the coming weeks.
