Millipore to launch new cells for GPCR testing

12th April 2010

Millipore is to launch a new range of frozen cells designed to make it easier for drug researchers to test G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs).

The new ChemiBrite Luminescent GPCR Reporter Frozen Cells provide a non-toxic luminescent readout which allows developers to test compounds as GPCR agonists or antagonists without the risk of cell death.

They are also frozen in Ready-To-Assay format, allowing them to be used immediately following thawing.

Millipore claims that products of this kind are becoming more important due to the limitations of traditional fluorescent GPCR assays, as well as the fact that 40 per cent of all marketed drugs are now targeted at GPCRs.

It is currently demonstrating the new product at the Society for Biomolecular Sciences, which takes place this week and concludes on April 15th 2010.

Last month, the company launched Milliflex Quantum, a detection system designed to allow drug manufacturers to rapidly identify and combat contamination from microorganisms.
