MSD Animal Health reveals flea treatment efficacy
MSD Animal Health has published the result of research comparing its Activyl flea treatment to the market leader, Sanofi's Frontline Plus.
Following a two-month study, it was shown almost five times as many pets were found to be flea free when treated with Activyl, while those who used this treatment also reported far fewer fleas in their homes.
The research showed Activyl – also known under the chemical name indoxacarb – eliminated more than 99 per cent of fleas after two monthly applications, compared to the 54.8 per cent reduction observed by Frontline Plus.
Kathleen Heaney, director of technical services for MSD Animal Health, said: "The pets in this study had the largest natural flea burdens the investigators had ever seen and were under continual reinfestation pressure. The data clearly show that Activyl was still able to effectively control the flea infestations."
Researchers from Kansas State University conducted the study in Tampa, Florida last summer.
