MSD appoints new board member

Merck, Sharp and Dohme (MSD) has announced the appointment of a new member to the company’s board of directors.

Thomas H Glocer, the chief executive of Reuters Group, is to join the MSD board from November 27th.

With his election, Mr Glocer is now one of 11 outside directors on the 12-member board and he will stand for election by the company’s stakeholders in April 2008.

Mr Glocer has had a long-standing career with Reuters; he joined the news provider in 1993 and headed Reuters America for a number of years

He was appointed to chief executive officer of Reuters Information in early 2000 and was also appointed to the company’s board the same year.

In July 2001 Mr Glocer was then selected as chief executive officer of Reuters group.

Mr Glocer started his career as a mergers and acquisition lawyer, working with Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York, Paris and Tokyo.

As well as his commitment to Reuters, Mr Glocer is a member of the International Advisory Board of British American Business and he also sits on the advisory board of the Judge Institute of Management at Cambridge University.

Earlier this year, MSD announced the appointment of Kenneth C Frazier to the position of executive vice-president and president of global human health at the firm.
