National Smile Month returns in May 2016
The Oral Health Foundation has confirmed that National Smile Month will be taking place from May 16th to June 16th, marking the 40th anniversary of the campaign.
Recognised as the UK's largest and longest-running oral health campaign, the initiative aims to increase awareness of key oral health issues, reminding people to brush regularly, cut down on sugary treats, and visit the dentist regularly.
The Wrigley's Extra and Oral-B brands have been selected as platinum sponsors of the campaign, with Polo and Philips Sonicare also providing support.
Efforts will be made to reach out to schools, community groups, local workforces and individuals, in order to ensure the message is disseminated as widely as possible.
Dr Nigel Carter, chief executive officer of the Oral Health Foundation, said: "In 2015 the campaign reached unprecedented levels, with in excess of 4,000 organisations registering their interest to take part and promote better oral health, but this year we want to go even further."
The British Dental Health Foundation was rebranded as the Oral Health Foundation earlier this month. National Smile Month is one of two annual campaigns it runs, the other being Mouth Cancer Action Month, which is held every November.
