Nestle announces Atrium Innovations takeover

12th December 2017

Nestle has agreed a deal to purchase Atrium Innovations, a global leader in nutritional health products.

The Canadian company will be acquired from a group of investors led by Permira Funds in a cash deal worth $2.3 billion (1.73 billion pounds). Once the deal closes, Atrium will become part of the Nestle Health Science business, with its existing management team remaining in place.

Atrium’s largest brand, Garden of Life, is the leading natural supplement on the US market, while its Pure Encapsulations range of hypoallergenic dietary supplements is also the most recommended brand among US practitioners.

Other Atrium brands such as Wobenzym, Douglas Laboratories, Genestra Brands, Orthica, AOV, Minami, Klean Athlete, Pharmax and Trophic will be added to Nestle's portfolio, complementing its focus on the high-growth food and beverage categories.

Greg Behar, chief executive officer of Nestle Health Science, said: "Atrium's portfolio will extend our product range with value-added solutions such as probiotics, plant-based protein nutrition, meal replacements and an extensive multivitamin line, enabling consumers to address their health and wellness goals."
